Ik kan me eigenlijk niet voorstellen dat het iemand anders dan Dave Vos wordt. Met zestien jaar ervaring als jeugdtrainer (waarvan tien bij Ajax) en een jaar als assistent van Van Bronckhorst bij Rangers lijkt hij me meer dan ervaren genoeg voor de rol. Ik zag zelf in Vos meer een toekomstige hoofdtrainer voor Ajax dan in Heitinga (ondanks dat ik wist dat de kans dat Heitinga die kans zou krijgen veel groter was). Vos heeft dezelfde zaakwaarnemer als Lodeweges dus ik neem aan dat die zaakwaarnemer Vd Sar nog wel even aan Vos heeft herinnerd voor de rol van beloftentrainer. He was honest and direct about what he wanted. “I’d watch a game and analyse it. As a former player, you think you would pick everything up but then he’d point something out I hadn’t even seen. His eye is unbelievable. That’s the same for individuals, team tactics, shape. “As a former player, it was, like, ‘Wow, this is a lot of detail’, but he sets the bar high and expects everyone to follow them.” The Athletic: "One coach at Ajax says he has never seen someone with the depth of tactical knowledge Vos possesses, while another said his greatest strength is his ability to translate a tactical issue from the game into a training session. “Knowing what you want is one thing but translating that onto the pitch and into a plan for the next four, five or six months is unbelievable,” they said."
